John King is a DJ’s DJ. This long time Brisbane stalwart has been showing up in various places for over ten years, first emerging in the late 90s as combined ITF/DMC QLD DJ champion in 1997 and 1998, competing in Australian finals against the likes of DJ Dexter. He then moved on to become the resident DJ for the Gravity Warriors break-dance troupe in the early 2000s. This stint saw him performing all over the country and at high profile shows such as tours with Resin Dogs, main stage at the Valley Fiesta, the Xbox product launch at Family, as well as a large variety of community oriented performances and teaching workshops. Upon the demise of the Gravity Warriors he focused for a few years on personal creative mixes and band performances, culminating in semi-headline performance at several 4ZZZ shows at Valley Fiesta and Market Day events performing live vinyl mashup sets and including a live band tribute to J Dilla alongside other talented musical friends. In the last 4 years he has been quietly doing his thing in most Brisbane clubs, slowly perfecting a soulful, funky and deep selection of hip hop, funk, soul, disco, boogie, pop, rock, new wave, reggae and whatever else takes his fancy. A combination of technical skill, knowledgeable selection, creative blends and mixes and well over a decade of experience set him apart from the run of the mill.

LL Cool James
A music freak from a young age, Cameron grew up drumming in high school bands before moving, from his home town of Coffs Harbour, to Brisbane to pursue university. Once in the ‘big smoke’ Cameron left his garage-band days behind and instead opted for a ‘smoother’ and more ‘illustrious’ gig as a wedding DJ. Gaining street-cred and influencing people faster than Obama, Cameron crossed from spinning sleazy love ballads, to helping sleazy love-rats pick-up on the dance floors of Brisbane’s most talked about clubs. Playing everywhere – from the Valley’s Alhambra, Monastery Nightclub, Empire Hotel, X&Y and Family, to West End’s Uber, the City’s Exchange Hotel, the Gold Coast’s Swell Tavern, and the super-festival Creamfields – Cameron’s unique mix of organic House, Nu-Disco, Funk, Soul Disco, classic Hip Hop, RNB and party music was spanked so hard and fast around South-East Queensland that he soon gained a reputation as one of the state’s most in-demand DJs.
In 2009 his knowledge of all things music, his social charm and his trendsetting ways saw him score a gig as the promoter and booker for Brisbane’s favourite student bar, Birdee Num Num. As Birdee’s Promoter Cameron was a key member of the award-winning marketing team that led Katarzyna – one of Australia’s most feted entertainment groups – to win a swagger of international and national praise, prizes and popularity. DJing and working alongside some of the biggest names in the business Cameron has developed one of the club music’s most astute ears and is now one of the Brisbane’s hottest music tickets. With a name that shouts technologic mastermind, and a moniker appropriated from one Generation X’s coolest music makers, there’s no doubt that James Cameron, AKA LL Cool James, is set be a future favourite of the Australian DJ scene.
Catch LL Cool James behind the decks, holding down residencies at Alhambra, Uber and Monastery Nightclub.
